A little Santenay anyone?
L. TRAMIER & FILS SANTENAY 1er CRU 2009 AC-Red
Burgundy, France $29.00 Product #0240366
A more generous, round and fruit forward Pinot Noir from the southern tip of Cote de Beaune, Burgundy. Welcoming aromas of red berries, hint of vanilla bean, and mushroom invite. It’s quite forgiving and supple, demonstrating the opulence of the 2009 Burgundian vintage.
Tasted February 2013.
Hint: Stick it in the fridge for 5-10 minutes before serving so it’s not too warm.
Soft tannins, supple black fruits with hints of floral and vanilla. This is the first malbec from California to hit the shelves in Ontario. The grapes were sourced from various California appellations and blended with a small percentage of cabernet sauvignon and petite sirah. This is a juicy fruit-driven, easy-going red. Tasted September 2012.
I went to the launch event last night for the new release of the Red Rock Malbec from California. It’s a winery owned by E&J Gallo. What a party! I must say that the branding for this wine is pretty cool.

As the Toronto International Film Festival descends upon the city for ten days of glitz and glamour, why not celebrate the star-studded week with a wine from California’s most famous region - Napa Valley.
The Anitca 2010 Chardonnay goes against the often stereotypical role of big, buttery and brutish. It resembles a classy Hollywood star from the 40s: smooth and elegant with considerable length. Displaying flavours of lemon and pear with hints of spice, the mineral notes shine through. The oak takes a step back from the limelight. The 2010 Anitca Chardonnay is definitely fresh and “cool” in character. Although I personally would be happy to enjoy this Chardonnay on its own, it will pair well with braised pork or grilled chicken with herb jus. Not an inexpensive wine, but it is one that you’ll enjoy having in your collection. Go ahead and splurge!

An enjoyable white Bordeaux for a decent price. Lovely stone fruit flavours, noticeable oak with a bit of grapefruit rind. I enjoyed it. A nice “Pessac-Leognan” alternative that won’t break the bank.

I’m so excited about the latest Vintages release (July 7th, 2012). There are some good finds with focus on a Tour of France. It was great to see the wines of Jura mentioned as not too many people know about them. That’s for a different post though. I recently tried this Sauvignon Blanc from the USA. This was an oaked Sauvignon Blanc that I really enjoyed! It was quite elegant with the wood not over-powering. Spice, pear, lemon and quince were just some of the flavours and aromas found. Great finish. Not the cheapest of Sauvignon Blancs but it sure was delicious.
